HOW TO CLEAN THAT SHOTGUN CHAMBER

We get a large number of shotguns in the shop for extraction problems. About seventy percent of these are due to a dirty chamber. When fired, the case will stick in the chamber and the extractor will override the case and leave the fired case in the chamber.

Before doing any cleaning, first make sure the firearm is unloaded.  If your firearms is a take down or double shotgun, remove the barrels and use a bright flashlight and shine it in the chamber.  Look for rust, dirt, and plastic residue.  These are hard to clean in the normal manner.

Try cleaning chamber with a new bore brush and solvent.  If it's still dirty, get a three piece shotgun cleaning rod.  Take the brush end section and put it in a drill.  Take a used bore brush and install it on the rod.  Next, get some Four Ought (0000 extra fine) steel wool.  Pull a piece off the pad and pull it out like a piece of Taffy.  Wrap It around the bore brush.  Put enough on the brush to make it bigger than the chamber.  Dip the brush in solvent and stick it in the chamber.  Turn on the drill and run the brush back and forth in the chamber.  This should take no more than 15 to 30 seconds. Clean and dry the chamber with a patch and inspect.

Using a flashlight, look into the chamber.  You will be amazed at how clean and bright the chamber now is.  Your gun will function better and run much faster.

REMEMBER, SAFETY FIRST.
